Game Day 9-14-2019

This year's Iowa State vs. Iowa Football game was a little different than past years. For the first time ever, ESPN's Game Day came to Ames!! This was a pretty big deal and pretty exciting for us. However, I wasn't as excited as I normally would be. My job description changed and they add Cyclone Central Tailgates to my plate. These are tailgates hosted at the Alumni Center prior to each game. Which means I work from 6 hours prior to kick-off until part-way through the first quarter. I was really not happy about this change to my job.

I was pretty upset that I was going to miss Game Day, but I managed to sneak over there for about 45 minutes to get to see the festivities a little bit. Best part, I got to give David Pollack a high five :) He's my favorite. We saw Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and I think Maria Taylor was the girl. I didn't get to see Lee Corso, he was set up further away from us. He did choose ISU to win though. Wish I would have gotten better pictures, oh well.

Carson King was a big part of Game Day as well. He was an ISU student who made a sign asking people to Venmo him money so he could buy more Busch Light. His sign made it on TV and people actually sent him money. He started to get a ton of money and thought "holy cow". So he thought about it and decided to donate all contributions back to the Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City. When he announced this, more and more people donated. Then companies said they would match the donation. Then there was some silly drama that I won't get into. At the end of it, he donated $2.95 million! It's really a crazy story.

At least Tracey, Conner & Hugh got a photo! I can't believe I didn't take one of Ryan and I. Sorry Addison, this post didn't really have much for you in it. But this was a pretty big day for us so I thought you would like to see it. :) Oh yea, there was 2 rain delays in this game too. We aren't having great luck with weather lately. We did end up playing the game, it ended around 9 or 10pm and kickoff was at 3pm. And it was a sad ending, we lost 17-18.

Well Addison, maybe when you are at ISU, Game Day will come back and we will actually win :) Your dad and I would have LOVED to experience Game Day as students. I hope you can some day!
